How are Portfolio Management Fees Charged?

Learn how Optimize’s portfolio management fees are applied, when they are charged, and how they appear within your investment accounts for full transparency and ease of understanding.

At Optimize, we believe in clarity and transparency when it comes to fees. Our portfolio management fees are structured to reflect the personalized services, ongoing oversight, and disciplined portfolio management you receive as part of your investment experience.

Fees Charged Directly to Your Investment Accounts

Portfolio management fees are charged directly to each of your investment accounts held at our custodian, National Bank Independent Network (NBIN). Whether you hold a TFSA, RRSP, corporate account, or non-registered account, fees are applied individually to each account, based on the assets held within that account.

This ensures that fees are tied directly to your investments and are reflected clearly on your statements, providing full visibility into the costs associated with managing your portfolio.

How and When Fees Are Charged

  • Fees are calculated on a pro-rated basis, monthly, in advance.
This means each month you are charged based on the average daily balance of your account’s net asset value (NAV) for the upcoming month.

  • Fees are processed on the first Thursday of each month.
The amount is automatically withdrawn from the same account where your investments are held.

This approach ensures your fees are charged regularly and predictably, avoiding large annual charges and making it easy to track on your monthly account statements.

How Optimize Ensures Fee Transparency

At Optimize, we ensure that all management and account-level fees are disclosed clearly in your investment documentation and reporting. You will see the breakdown of fees directly on your account statements, and they are calculated based on our transparent fee schedule, ensuring you always know what you are paying and how it is applied.

We also avoid duplicating fees by ensuring that any fund units held inside your account are accounted for correctly—fees are either applied at the fund level or the account level, not both.

Why Fees Are Charged This Way

Charging fees directly to your investment accounts allows for simplicity, transparency, and tax efficiency where applicable. For registered accounts, such as RRSPs or TFSAs, fees are withdrawn from within the account, which helps avoid additional out-of-pocket costs. For non-registered accounts, fees are also directly deducted, ensuring your portfolio management is seamless and integrated.
