Tax Preparation: Authorizing Optimize
Learn how to set up CRA authorization so Optimize can prepare and file your taxes
Optimize must be authorized by the CRA to file taxes on your behalf. This authorization is required for all clients filing through Optimize Tax Preparation for the first time. If you have filed taxes through Optimize before, authorization is already on file and no action is needed.
There are two ways to authorize Optimize:
- Option 1: Self-authorize through your My CRA account
- Option 2: If you are unable to self-authorize, you can include your most recent Notice of Assessment (NOA) with your submission so Optimize can authorize on your behalf.
This article walks you through both options.
Authorization is required for all clients using Optimize's tax preparation services for the first time. Failing to confirm authorization before submitting will cause delays
Option 1: Self-authorizing through My CRA
To authorize Optimize, log into your My CRA account and follow these steps:

- Under Online access, select Yes.
- Under Expiry date, select Does not expire.

Remember: Optimize's business number is 854092061.
Once submitted, Optimize will appear as an authorized representative on your CRA profile. Please let your Advisor know that you have completed this process.
Option 2: Include your Notice of Assessment (NOA)
This method may cause CRA processing delays.
If you are unable to self-authorize, you can enable Optimize to authorize on your behalf by including the following with your tax preparation request:
- A copy of your most recent Notice of Assessment (NOA) or Notice of Reassessment that has been on file with the CRA for at least 6 months , or
Optimize will provide this information to the CRA to generate a unique authorization consent form. Your Advisor will then select a signature method for you to sign:
- Electronic signature: The consent form will be sent to you for signature by email through DocuSign.
- Wet signature: Your Advisor will provide the documentation for you to sign. Optimize will submit it to the CRA for processing.
The CRA may call you to confirm authorization when using this method.
